Yes. Dogs are welcome at Maisie’s Green Brae. On-leash throughout the outdoor space, and off-leash in the fenced dog yard with their owners. Water is out. The brae has plenty of room for a dog who needs to stretch.
The restaurant is named for a dog. A one-eyed foxhound rescue named Maisie, to be precise — steady, whole-hearted, better-mannered than most. So when people ask whether dogs are welcome here, the answer is genuinely yes, not just a policy checkbox.
Here’s what the experience actually looks like when you bring yours.
Where Dogs Can Go
The outdoor space at Maisie’s Green Brae is large — acres of ground, not a strip of sidewalk. Dogs are welcome on-leash throughout: the lawn, the upper patio, the covered porch seating when it isn’t packed. Your dog can be at your feet at the table.
There’s also a fenced dog yard for off-leash time. Dogs go in with their owners — it’s not a drop-off situation — and it’s a good place to let a well-behaved dog decompress before settling in for the evening. We keep water out there.
Dogs are not permitted in the indoor dining room, which is standard for restaurants with a food service license. If you need to be inside at some point, we can work it out — ask your server.
A Few Practical Notes
- Leashes are required in all outdoor spaces except the dog yard. Short leashes are better than long ones in a busy yard.
- We have water bowls available. If we’re short one when you arrive, ask.
- We don’t have a dedicated dog menu, but plain grilled chicken is something the kitchen can usually put together. Ask your server what’s available that day.
- Well-behaved dogs of all sizes are welcome. We trust our guests to know their own dogs.
About the Name
Maisie came to Christine and Karl Schaefer as a rescue. One eye, a calm disposition, and an unusual amount of dignity for a dog who’d had a hard start. The founders had been talking for years about the kind of place Tega Cay didn’t have yet — a backyard for the whole town, somewhere kids could run and neighbors could linger and dogs could just be dogs. Maisie fit the idea so well that the name wasn’t really a decision; it was obvious.
A brae is a Scottish word for a hillside. The land at 2150 Gold Hill Road rises toward the back. The name came together from a dog, a hill, and a conviction that a good place to gather doesn’t need to be complicated.
When to Come
We’re open Wednesday through Sunday. On weekday evenings the outdoor space is quieter and easier for dogs who are still learning how to be in busy places. Friday and Saturday nights get livelier — live music, fuller tables, more foot traffic. Both work; it just depends on your dog.
Hours: Wednesday and Sunday 11am–8pm · Thursday 11am–10pm · Friday and Saturday 11am–11pm · Monday and Tuesday closed.
